news!

I have quite a lot to update about. I started a new job last Thursday. I was tired of being underpaid while driving 90+ minutes a day, so I decided to get something on this side of the water. It’s nice so far - I got to keep my current position as a flex employee, so I’m pretty happy about that. It’s nice to not burn any bridges - you never know who you’ll meet in the future.

At my new job they gave me a decent laptop - it’s used, but certainly functional. The battery that came with it had a 37 minute life, so I requested a new battery. That should come today. I’m working as a Sr. Consultant for Internosis. I’m currently on a contract for Verizon, so I’m working over at the old Newmarket Mall. I love going home for lunch!

The stuff I’m working on is ok - mostly VB6 and ASP, with a sprinkling of Perl scripting in a Solaris environment. The company would like to transition everything over to .NET (as would I), so I’ll be working on that in the upcoming year. Things are pretty slow at the beginning, I’m just fixing things that break. Fortunately, stuff doesn’t break too often, so I’m good there.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Sorry if I’ve been quiet lately, just lots of stuff going on.

indeed

I had Chinese for lunch today, the day after I put in my resignation notice. Here’s what my fortune had to say:

“All things have an end.”

It also said that “Baseball” is pronounced “Bang-qiu” in Chinese, but I thought that was slightly less relevant than the message.

new job

I have big news. I resigned my current position in Norfolk and I’ll be moving to a new job in Hampton. The new place is 4 miles from my house, and I’m pretty excited about it. There’s also a big payraise too. :-D woot.

Anyway, anyone know any programmers with about 5-7 yrs experience that’s looking for work? It’s a good job, and I really didn’t want to leave.

I’ll post more details later.
