carpentry?

Raegan and I just finished our first routing project. We got a router for our birthdays from her parents, and used it to fill in a gaping hole in our countertop from where our stovetop used to be. We rounded the top edges and all along the bottom corners so it would fit in there. I tell you, it was really pretty fun. Anway, check out our new countertop:

Day 18

running blog entry.

Today was just a mile and a half. Lots of fun. I’m really tired - been going on 5.5 hrs of sleep per night. I don’t really have a good reason for it. Just one of those stupid things young people do. What, do I think I’m 19?

We did our normal 1.5 mile loop. We jogged the first part, walked the middle, jogged the end, then walked the very end. I started walking the last bit but the inner part of my left knee felt weird. Kinda… stiff or something. I don’t know. The point is, I didn’t much like the feeling. So I decided to take it easy. That and I couldn’t breathe very well.

Oh ya, I went this one with no shirt. I was already burning up just from being in my house, so I figured what the heck and went topless. Don’t worry, we run at like midnight so there’s no young kids that will run shrieking to their parents or anything like that.

The breeze never felt sweeter. I would like to get to the point where I can run without a shirt in the daytime and not worry about excessive jiggling. Jiggling isn’t the right word… more like gallumping.

Day 17

cross posted: running blog

I may have mentioned earlier that our house is currently without air conditioning. Since we don’t have A/C, our refrigerator has ceased to work properly. The freezer is like a tiny fridge, and the fridge is like a lighted pantry. It’s rather quaint. Raegan and I had to throw away a bunch of food because it went bad. Also, the freezer no longer holds ice cream at the proper temperature (15 - 20 degrees). This has been going on for about 10 days or so, because we don’t have the money to fix the A/C at present.

I had to provide context for our decision to plan our 2.0 mile run this evening with a stop at Walgreen’s 9/10 of the way through for an ice cream break. Yes, Raegan and I jogged and walked our way 1.8 miles, before bolting across Mercury Blvd to get two Nestle Crunch ice cream bars. Overpriced? yes. Contrary to the stated purpose of running in the first place? probably. Worth every penny? Heck yes.

After admonishing Raegan to remove the popsicle stick from her mouth while re-crossing Mercury, we decided to embed the sticks into a mulch garden around a tree. It’s not littering if it’s a) not visible b) biodegradable, right?

I think this was my favorite run so far.

Days 14 & 15

Cross posted from my running blog.

This posting is kinda late, but that’s life. On Sat Raegan and I went 2.5 miles for our “long” day. This was supposed to be a lighter week, and I know why. My knees, shins and ankles were killing me - Raegan had similar complaints. So we did the 2.5 miles walking the entire way. It felt very nice, what with the breeze and all.

We also had some things to discuss, and it was very nice being able to carry on a nice discourse with each other during the walk. Our conversations while jogging go something like this:
“What….did you………..think of……the…..show………tonight?”
“I…….don’t…………..know what…………you’re………………talking…………………about”
“……………………..”
“…………………….”
“you…………..know……………..the………………..show that………………was on……………tv”
“…………………………………….oh ya………………………………what………….about it?”

Anyway, this walk was much nicer. Raegan and I have the opportunity to move into new ministry area, helping our former pastor as he moves into a new worldwide teaching ministry. It’s pretty cool, and our first few tasks are to design & build a website, find a cell phone that will work in Europe/Asia, and find a way to share our calendars.

I went ahead and added Day 15 to this (supposed to be cross-training on Sunday). We slacked off and didn’t do anything. Eh, that’s life.

Here’s the route we took on Saturday.

Day 13

You should know about my running blog by now.

Raegan and I ran 1.5 miles tonight. We decided to run in opposite directions and see what we could do on our own. Before we left I asked Raegan if she wanted to take Titus. She said, “the anchor? nah, let’s leave him in the yard.” So we did.

We took our phones with us, and they have a nifty stopwatch feature on them (also they functioned as emergency items, in case one of us had a heart attack or something).

My shins were burning this entire run. Raegan said she felt it in her knees, shins & ankles also. I’m very glad that tomorrow is a rest day, because I’m very sore.

Raegan ran a 16:40, and I ran a 17:33. We are very pleased with these times. I was shooting for a 12 minute mile, and I bested that by 15 seconds. And Raegan! I told you she was fast, running a near 11 minute mile. She didn’t even look tired afterwards. I admit, I’m a bit conflicted. I’m proud she beat me, but I’m annoyed she beat me.

Stupid stopwatch. I wasn’t able to do my karate chop hands (her shorts had a pocket for the phone). I’m sure that’s what slowed me down.
