Day 6
Cross posted from las blogos del running.
Today we ran 1.5 miles in about 23 minutes. Titus went with us, and was somewhat ornery. He was either lagging behind, or pulling on ahead. His favorite game was to run along with us, then without warning stop and look at something. Amazing what 130 pounds of dog lashed to your arm will do. It will make you forget that your legs hurt, that’s what it’ll do.
Anyway, yesterday was my 28th birthday. Raegan made a lovely birthday cake, with buttercream and coconut frostings. It was very good. Today, about 4 pm, I said, “hey raegan! want some cake?” She said, “sure!” So we had cake and a tall glass of milk to wash it down. We ran at 5 pm. Amazing what cake and milk are like in the first few blocks of a 1.5 mile run. *bleah* But we got through that ok.
All of our runs last week were in the late evening (11 pm - 1 am). This is our first late afternoon/early evening run. It was very warm. I sweated like crazy. But it was great. Raegan and I were both able to maintain conversation throughout the whole thing. I think that’s the objective with all this.
Quote of the run - “It feels like I have two inches of hot air surrounding my body. Where’s the wind, ya know?” Apparently we weren’t running fast enough to make our own.

Day 5
Cross posted from my running blog.
Today was our cross-training day. We decided to ride our bikes over to my parents’ place, 7.1 miles away. Not a bad ride, took us about 40 minutes. It was really a fairly easy ride. Raegan said I was riding too fast, but my rear end was really hurting from that stupid seat. I figured the sooner I got there the sooner I could get off that confounded seat.
Anyway, I’m really amazed at how we have been able to recover. We went 3 miles yesterday and it was great, and I feel fine now. Except for my butt. I gotta find a donut pillow thingy or something.
We were supposed to cross train for a full hour, but the ride was too short for that. But while at my parents’ place we moved a bunch of boxes and shelves to their new house (next door to their current house). So I figure it all evens out. I don’t think I could do another 20 minutes on that bike seat.
Next week I vote for swimming.

Day 4
This entry is cross posted from my running blog.
Ah, our first “long day”. This was actually a great run/walk/jog. We ran/walked/jogged 3 miles. Starting off, things were a bit painful, notably my shins. Quads were/are fine. But the shins, ouch. I can testify that there is, in fact, muscle on your shin. I need to find a good stretch for these guys.
The spider web per mile ratio was extremely low, 67%, with the high being the first day, 500%. Part of the reason was that Raegan ran interference for me. Nothing is cuter than watching your wife run in front of you flailing her arms above her head like a mad woman, not caring what the cars think driving by. I wondered if I might get beaten up by some poor fool thinking she was runing *away* from me. Funny thing is that I actually still got a web in the face while she was doing that, simply because I’m a good foot taller than she is. But she definitely saved me from at least one large spider. Stupid arachnids.
Back to the running. About 2/3 of the way through, Raegan and I were in our walking stage, talking about life and stuff. I knew it was time to run again when she started trying to walk heel-to-toe on the painted line. Geez, I know she’s in better shape than me, but does she have to rub it in like that? *grumble*
So anyway, we’ve run a total of 7 miles. w00t.

Day 3
cross posted from my running blog.
So tonight was Bible Study, at our house. The last people left around 9:45 pm, so there was no running to be done before that. After they left, I had to check my email, which I hadn’t done for *hours*. So about 12:30 am Raegan finally dragged me out to run.
It was actually a good evening. My legs hurt, but it’s more of a seething resentment rather than an outright hatred. So we start out walking, for about 2 blocks. Then we talk about jogging, but end up walking for another few blocks. When we do run, everthing seems fine. I was thinking about my stride, breathing deeply, you know, all that good stuff. Then I hear that Raegan isn’t near me anymore. I turn around and do that jog in place to see what’s going on. Apparently Titus had to take care of business. I continued to do my jog in place thingy that sets me apart as an elite runner. Raegan jogged up to me and we proceeded to run along our route.
About a half mile later I realized this whole running thing was actually kinda fun. It’s enjoyable running with someone you love.
Oh and one other thing. The memorable quote from the evening was “Titus pooped in someone’s yard. I let him do it.” I won’t tell you that Raegan said that, because I don’t want her to know I mentioned it.
