We are our voice…
I finished reading Microserfs. it’s become one of my favorite books. it’s rather inspiring, and one of the main reasons i’ve begun writing in my journal again. it seems that books nowadays (is that a real word?) seem to be lacking in the character development department. this is a shame, because that’s what really touches the heart and causes a reader to identify with a character. when the protagonist grows throughout the story, we grow with them. soon, if we let ourselves, we’ll be drawn into the emotions exhibited by the protagonist.
one of my favorite quotes from this book is It was strange to realize that in one sense, all we are is our voice.” this goes along well with my “discovery” of late regarding the role lanugage plays in our lives. by making this statement, the character was saying that we are highly social beings. our actions and our interactions with others are really what define us.
now some of you might say, “wait! i thought our relationship to God was more important than our relationship to others…” well, this is true. and how is it that we develop a relationship with God? by communicating. if we don’t communicate with God, we have no relatioship with Him. if we have no voice, then we have no communication. “…all we are is our voice.”
with all that said, i have to say that i really want to develop my voice more. both with my relationship with God and in other areas of my life. one could take this quote and go a step further: all we are in relation to God is our voice to God or all i am as a programmer is my voice or the languages i know…. to be continued

The Dead Zone
ok. i’m in a different part of the stinky parking lot, and i smell it. the smell of all smells. it’s making a weird “L” shape. i’m going to draw a little map and show you what i’m talking about. it’s horrible.

what a Bible study…
I was at a friend’s house for a Bible study. One of the guys (med student) said, “There’s too much emphasis placed on the objective in our society. It is my firm belief that our lives must intersect with God on the subjective. It’s like Pulp Fiction…”
my apologies to John for not getting the quote exactly right…
